About

Daan van Houten (NL, 1993) makes paintings and etchings that address how the collective imagination shapes individual thought. He reflects on stereotypes, social norms, and cultural icons through the making of the image. As the image transforms, his understanding of the subject changes with it. By leaving traces of decision-making visible, the works testify to the mind’s capacity to change.

Daan is self-taught and began his practice in 2023, after a study in communication science and a brief career in advertising.
